Level Designer Lecturer (0.8-1 FTE)

Are you an experienced Level Designer? And would you like to share your knowledge and experience with students? Then this is the job for you! You will work in our top-rated Games bachelor’s programme, making a substantial contribution to ensuring that our students become the leading specialists in the Games industry. The Games bachelor’s programme is one of the programmes taught at the Academy for Games & Media (AGM) of Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas). We work together with industry partners and have alumni in leading game studios. You will be working near the city centre of Breda, on a green, sustainable and high-tech campus.

About this job
As a Level Designer Lecturer (0.8-1 FTE) you will be teaching enthusiastic Game Design students how to collaborate and design games in large teams, helping them create their portfolio and prepare for their internship. You will draw upon your experience in working on Console and/or PC games, as this position is primarily focused on sharing your practical skills and industry insights with students.

Your mentorship will be crucial as they work on exciting game projects within our simulated studio environment. The entire course is project based and beyond the guidance in the game projects, you will contribute by creating engaging workshops and delivering inspiring lectures. We encourage you to leverage your industry connections for guest lectures, providing students with real-world perspectives. Collaboration with fellow lecturers will be a key part of your role, fostering a supportive and creative environment.

What do we offer?

  • The salary for this position amounts to a monthly minimum of € 4,324.28 and a monthly maximum of € 5,936.77 (gross amounts based on full-time employment); 

  • This position is classified in scale 11 of the cao-hbo (collective labour agreement); 

  •  This position involves a one-year employment contract with the possibility of conversion into an indefinite employment contract; 

  • Your commuting expenses will be fully reimbursed if you travel by public transport; 

  • You will receive an end-of year benefit of 8.3% and an annual holiday allowance of 8%; 

  • You will receive compensation for health insurance; 

  • You will also be awarded professional development hours every yearandapproximately eleven weeks of holiday entitlements for a full-time position; 

  • You will be working at a top-ranked university of applied sciences on a green, sustainable campus near the city centre of Breda. You will work with the newest game and media technologies including photogrammetry, motion capturing and virtual productions studios, experience measurement labs and immersive media equipment;  

  • You will be working in an attractive and friendly working environment together with enthusiastic colleagues from the industry, a highly experienced, international Research & Development team, and students from around the world;  

  • Moving from abroad to Breda in the Netherlands? We provide support and financial compensation in the case of relocation and settling-in in the Netherlands. Dutch tax authorities may offer tax reduction to applicants from abroad (which makes tax rates comparable to the UK and US).  

What do we ask of you?

  • You have practical experience with tools like Unreal or proprietary game development software; 

  • You have a good understanding of Level Design and the creative process behind it; 

  • You have knowledge of theoretical Level Design and Game Design principles;  

  • You have 5+ years of Industry experience and at least one published game on your CV; 

  • You have teaching experience in higher professional education or are willing to obtain a didactics certificate; 

  • The bachelor’s and master's programmes are entirely taught in English, and you will be working in an international and intercultural setting; therefore, having excellent verbal and written communication skills in English is a necessity;
